Flavonoids (C-15 compounds) are the largest group of plant phenols. They occur either in the free state or in the form of glycosides. Ring-B of flavonoids is formed from phenylpropane via the shikimate pathway, while rings A and C arise from condensation of acetate units via malonlyl CoA.
