Glycols boric acid complexes

It was found in the first place that aliphatic, non-cyclic glycols without adjacent hydroxyl groups have no effect they cannot form cyclic complexes. But also most glycols with not more than two adjacent hydroxyl groups are inactive. I therefore assumed that only if two hydroxyl groups are favorably situated for the formation of a complex boric acid compound, will it be possible to observe an increase in the conductivity. [Pg.190]

H+ (alkaloid) systems of this boro-complex cannot be situated in one plane. Hermans also succeeded in preparing compounds of boric acid with glycols which did not increase the conductivity. However, they contained only one molecule of glycol to one molecule of boric acid, and thus were not spiranes. [Pg.194]

Didesoxydihydrostreptose formed an acidic complex with boric acid. In accordance mth the extensive work of Boeseken and his students, this is indicative of a configurationally cis a-glycol grouping and the configuration of didesoxydihydrostreptose would be one of the two formulas shown (XLVII or XLVIII). Streptose itself would then have either the configurational system of L-ribose or L-lyxose and would... [Pg.370]

Eibonucleoside 5 -phosphates possess an unsubstituted, vicinal cis-glycol system. Such systems complex with boric acid, and an increase in the acidity results. In addition, these a-m-glycol systems are cleaved by metaperiodate to their corresponding dialdehydes. Thus, adenosine 5 -phosphate consumes one mole of periodate per mole, whereas yeast adenylic acid (the 2 - and 3 -monophosphates of adenosine see p. 312) is resistant to this oxidant. ... [Pg.311]

The ointment is an enzymatic debriding-healing ointment that contains standardized papain USP (not less than 521,700 USP units per gram of ointment), urea USP 10%, and chlorophyllin copper complex sodium 0.5% in a hydrophilic base composed of purified water USP, propylene glycol USP, white petrolatum USP, stearyl alcohol NF, polyoxyl 40 stearate NF, sorbitan monostearate NF, boric acid NF, chlorobutanol (anhydrous) NF (as a pre-... [Pg.220]

Since boric acid forms stable complexes with polyhydroxy aliphatic compounds such as glycols and polyalcohols, these common compounds might be expected to have some effect on silica apparently they do, not. Richardson (199) examined nine sugars and seven polyhydric alcohols, and found no influence on solubility. For some unexplained reason he found glycine-to,retard the rate of dissolution of quartz by 10-20%. ... [Pg.59]
