Diethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether Adipic Acid... 

Hexamethylene glycol, HO(CH2)gOH. Use 60 g. of sodium, 81 g. of diethyl adipate (Sections 111,99 and III,100) and 600 ml. of super-d ethyl alcohol. All other experimental detaUs, including amounts of water, hydrochloric acid and potassium carbonate, are identical with those for Telramelhylene Glycol. The yield of hexamethylene glycol, b.p. 146-149°/ 7 mm., is 30 g. The glycol may also be isolated by continuous extraction with ether or benzene. 

Long-chain aUphatic acids such as adipic acid (qv) [124-04-9] are generally used to improve flexibiUty and enhance impact properties, demonstrating subtle improvements over resins modified with the ether glycols (diethylene glycol) and polyether glycols (polypropylene glycol) (see PoLYETHERs).

Gee and Walker reported the separation of such methylated glucose and fructose derivatives, mainly tetra- and tri-methyl ethers, as would arise from methylated sucrose derivatives. At the same time, they showed that fully methylated di- and tri-saccharides could be separated by gas chromatography. In a study on sucrose lactate, Percival and Young showed that the isomeric methyl 1,3,4-, 1,3,6-, and 1,4,6-tri-O-methyl-D-fructosides have similar retention times on 15% butanediol succinate, but are resolved on IM polyphenyl ether or 10 ethylene glycol adipate.
