Glutamine description

Generally, the expressions proposed for the kinetics of glucose or glutamine uptake do not differ significantly from each other. Table 8.5 (for formulations) and Table 8.6 (parameters) sum up the kinetic models for the description of substrate uptake rates. [Pg.204]

The model proposed for mammalian cell cultures provides a description of the possible influence of four of the main medium components - glucose, glutamine, lactate and ammonia - on the rates of cellular growth, death and metabolism. It contains kinetic terms that quantify the influence of each of the components either in reducing the rate of cellular growth or in increasing the rate of cell death. [Pg.174]

ABC transporters translocate many different allocrites (transport substrates), but the primary structures of the NBDs show --25% sequence identity across the whole superfamily [9[. Marked sequence conservation is observed over five short regions found in the NBDs (i) the Walker A and (ii) Walker B regions, which are separated by approximately 90-120 amino acids and between which lie the (hi) signature motif [2, 7, 9, 35, 36] and (iv) the glutamine loop (Q-loop) [37[. The most C-terminal motif is the histidine loop (H-loop) [2[. The signature, Q-loop, and H-loop seem to be specific to ABC transporters [9], and the function of these is described in more detail below. A recent description of the importance of a highly conserved aromatic residue has led to the naming of an A-loop at the N-terminus of the NBD [38[. [Pg.5]

Since you are in Canada (beautiful country and fun people) there is really no single supplement I would attach "powerful in the sense of AAS" to the word "available". But I will say that the use of creatine, glutamine, EFAs and quality protein powders will make a profound difference in the results a hard training athlete will realize. There are a few other intent specific supplements available I will mention in other Q A s as we progress, but none available in Canada fit the "as good as taking anabolic steroids" description. [Pg.85]

Theophylline binds to a subpocket of the active site and appears to be sandwiched between a phenylalanine and a valine via hydrophobic bonds. Its binding affinity is reinforced by hydrogenbonding between a tyrosine and N-7 and a glutamine and 0-6 of the xanthine ring system. There are more than 11 families of PDEs, and studies have shown that theophylline binds in a similar manner to both the PDE4 and PDE5 family isoforms (30). (For a more detailed description of PDE subtypes and their inhibitors, see Chapter 17.)... [Pg.1948]

In considering the commercially successful herbicides known to be inhibitors of amino acid biosynthesis, three aspects will be considered the kinetic description of the inhibition, the molecular interactions involved, and the relevance of the proposed target site to the observed physiological effects. Because of the extensive body of research published on the shikimate pathway and the herbicide glyphosate, this example will be taken as a paradigm of the inhibitor-enzyme relationship. The other cases considered will be the branched-chain amino acid family, histidine biosynthesis, and glutamine synthetase. [Pg.31]

These brief reports have been confirmed by a more detailed description of a similar case (Truscott et al, 1979), a girl who died at 5 days of age with hyperammonaemia, and raised plasma glutamine, alanine and lysine. Increased excretion of 3-methylglutaric, 3-methylglutaconic and 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaric acids (but not of 3-hydroxyisovaleric acid) was observed but at much lower concentrations than those in patients with authentic 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA lyase deficiency, being 170,463 and 181 mmol mol of creatinine respectively or 20 per cent, 6 per cent and 1 per cent of the concentrations in an authentic patient. Measurement of enzyme activities in cultured fibroblasts showed these to be normal and a primary defect in the urea cycle was suspected ... [Pg.279]
