Glass, shielding

The conversion of a diazo ketone to an acid amide may be accomplished by treating a warm solution in dioxan with 10-28 per cent, aqueous ammonia solution containing a small amount of silver nitrate solution, after which the mixture is heated at 60°-70° for some time. Precautions should be taken (by use of a. safety glass shield) when heating mixtures containing ammoniacal silver nitrate. [Pg.903]

Sodium or rubidium atoms were deposited in much the same way as Al- and Ca-atoms, with the exception that the atoms were obtained from SAES getter sources (zeolites), which could be mounted, one at a time, into a heated glass shield (to maintain a stream of atoms in the correct direction in the UHV chamber), then opened in UHV and maintained clean during the course of the measurements1. Spectroscopically clean metal films could be prepared from these sources, as a check on source purity. [Pg.89]

For personal protection the test is performed in an explosion-proof fume-chamber or in a well-ventilated test-cell. The capacity of the exhaust fan should be large enough to dilute the decomposition products to the extent that no explosive mixtures with air can be obtained. A stable, shatter-proof glass shield must be placed between the observer and the Dewar. [Pg.143]

Pasty materials are introduced into the vessel in such a way that no air pockets were present in the sample. The height of filling should be about 20 mm below the rim of the vessel. The weight and the temperature of the substance are recorded. The vessel is placed in the test-cell or fume-chamber behind the glass shield, after which the... [Pg.143]

Mentally note whenever the HPS and metal halide lights are in use and you have a water sprayer or hose in your hand. A drop of water hitting a bulb will cause it to explode H this happens, turn off the lights immediately and leave the room until the air is evacuated. Sheets of heat resistant glass shields are sold with HID lights. They should be cleaned once every few weeks. Never touch a bulb while it is on a bulb must be cool before it is tended to. [Pg.63]

In the feedback mode, tips with a large glass shielding are preferable as they heighten the contrast in current between active and inactive parts of the surface. On the other hand, there is a greater danger of mechanical... [Pg.215]

The (saturated) calomel electiode is attached in a similar way to the same vertical support. It is positioned outside the glass shield so that its leak is at the same level as the lowei edge of the glass shield. [Pg.33]
