Polyurethane Methanol 1. Abrasion followed by brushing. Grit or vapor blast, or 280-grit emery cloth followed by solvent wipe 2. Incorporation of a chlorosilane into the adhesive-elastomer system. 1% w/w is usually sufficient Chlorosilane is available commercially. Addition to adhesive eliminates need for priming and improves adhesion to glass, metals. Silane may be used as a surface primer... [Pg.451]

The formation of covalent bonds between resin molecules in a coating and the surface of the substrate can enhance adhesion. Thus, adhesion to glass is promoted by reactive silanes having a trimethoxysilyl group on one end that reacts with a hydroxyl group on the glass surface. The silanes have... [Pg.347]

Adhesion promoter. Epoxy silane can be added to increase adhesion to glass (mainly for BR sealants). In certain textile applications, isocyanates can be added to solvent-borne BR cements. [Pg.652]

Liquid rubbers In order to improve the flexibihty of short glass fiber-reinforced epoxy composites, Kaynak et al. [53] modified the epoxy resin matrix with hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) liquid mbber. A silane coupling agent was also used to improve the interfacial adhesion between glass fibers and epoxy matrix. However, Humpidge et al. [54] reported some unique processing problems for the resulting pasty mixmres when short textile fibers were incorporated in a hquid mbber medium. [Pg.354]
