Gibbs, Josiah W. (1839-1903). Stated three principal laws of thermodynamics expounded on the nature of entropy and phase rule and the relation between chemical, electric, and thermal energy. 

Boltzmann s achievements in theoretical physics are all the more remarkable in view of the considerable opposition to his ideas and in view of his own declining health. He had increasingly severe bouts of mental depression, and he tried to commit stiicide several times during his hfe.
