Around 2000, the regulations should become more severe. In this area, a European limit of benzene of 3% appears very probable certain countries such as Germany are even looking at 1%. In Italy, it was decided towards the end of 1991, to limit benzene to 2.5% for leaded and unleaded fuels in the seven largest cities characterized by having heavy atmospheric pollution concurrently, in these same cities, the overall aromatic contents of gasolines should not exceed 33%. [Pg.258]

The odor threshold for detection of ethyleneimine is 2 ppm. The maximum permissible concentration of ethyleneimine in the air at the place of work is 0.5 ppm (as specified in statutory regulations in the United States (374) and in Germany (375)). Animal experiments have shown ethyleneimine to be both carcinogenic (376) and mutagenic (377) (Table 2). [Pg.12]

Commercial lithium peroxide has been assigned UN No. 1472 and should be transported in accordance with international transport regulations pertaining to Class 5.1, oxidizing substances. It is manufactured by ChemetaH AG (Germany) and Lithium Corp. of America (United States). The U.K. price in 1994 was J48—198/kg ( 70—285/kg), depending on quantity. [Pg.90]

There is also, however, an increasing resistance by local communities to siting new plants in many of these European areas. Moreover, the environmental regulations have become increasingly stringent in Germany, the Netherlands, and Erance. It is estimated that the environment and other safety-related costs in Germany have risen to the point where 30% of the total capital investment needed is for environmental and safety measures. [Pg.88]

The corrosion of underground pipes and cables caused by the electrolytic action of stray currents from d.c. electric railway and tramway systems has long been a serious problem. Regulations limiting the maximum potential between tramway rails and neighbouring buried structures and the maximum potential difference between points on the rail systems have been in operation in the UK since 1894 and in Germany since 1910 . [Pg.228]

In West Germany a regulation is being discussed allowing no more than 10 ppb of preformed nitrosamines and 200 ppb of nitrosatable amines in migrates of nipples and pacifiers. [Pg.226]

In all EU countries except Germany and Denmark, some form of regulation or intervention in the individual prices of medicines is used as the principal cost containment policy, ranging from systems that fix the price of each product to profit control systems (as in the UK).
