Medical devices are assigned to regulatory classes based upon intended use and indications for use, which impact the level of regulatory control required. The FDA has created about 1700 different generic device types, grouping these into 16 medical... [Pg.239]

HFAM has 20 groups of factors instead of the 10 general failure types of the TRIPOD approach. The reason for this is that all of the 10 TRIPOD GFTs would be applied in all situations, even though the actual questions that make up the factors may vary. In the case of HFAM, it would be rare to apply all of the factors unless an entire plant was being evaluated. HFAM uses a screening process to first identify the major areas vulnerable to human error. The generic factors and appropriate job specific factors are then applied to these areas. For example, control room questions would not be applied to maintenance jobs. [Pg.87]

Polyesters are another important class of polyols. There are many polyester types used, so a generic structure is shown in Scheme 4.4. They are often based on adipic acid and either ethylene glycol (ethylene adipates) or 1,4-butanediol (butylene adipates). Polyesters, because of the polar carbonyl groups, contribute more to intermolecular forces, and physical properties such as tear and impact resistance are often improved by using them. They are also utilized for their solvent and acid resistance and light stability. Relatively poor hydrolytic stability is... [Pg.212]

Glycogen storage disease is a generic term to describe a group of inherited disorders characterized by deposition of an abnormal type or quantity of glycogen in the tissues. The principal glycogenoses are summarized in Table 18—2. Deficiencies of adenylyl kinase and cAMP-dependent protein kinase have also been re-... [Pg.151]

The family of polymers that we refer to as nylons consists of molecules composed of amide groups alternating with short runs of methylene units. These molecules are also known as polyamides, which may be shortened to PA. The generic chemical structure of a nylon molecule is shown in Fig. 23.1. Variations on this basic structure include the length of the polymethylene sequences and the orientation of the amide groups relative to their neighbors. Figure 23.2 shows the chemical structures of nylon 6 and nylon 66, which are the two most common types of nylon. [Pg.357]
