General functions coordinate selection

This quite general and highly selective introduction on nitric oxide chemistry had the aim to stress the importance of reviewing the organometallic and coordination chemistry of NO, whenever this molecule may get connected to a function in homogeneous catalysis. This chapter will describe well-established examples of the versatility of nitrosyl-based homogeneous catalyses and maybe it will help to identify nitrosyl niches worth for exploitation and development to accomplish new and better performing transition metal catalysts, in particular those with middle transition elements.

Unfunctionalized alkenes have posed more of a problem, as they have no polar moiety which can coordinate to the catalyst. Such an additional metal binding site next to the C = C bond has proven to be crucial for directing coordination to the catalyst and, therefore, rhodium and ruthenium complexes, which are highly selective for functionalized alkenes, generally provide only low enan-tioselectivity for this class of substrates. 

Disadvantages of the benzodiazepines include the risk of dependence, depression of central nervous system functions, and amnestic effects. In addition, the benzodiazepines exert additive central nervous system depression when administered with other drugs, including ethanol. The patient should be warned of this possibility to avoid impairment of performance of any task requiring mental alertness and motor coordination. In the treatment of generalized anxiety disorders and certain phobias, newer antidepressants, including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), are now considered by many authorities to be drugs of first choice (see Chapter 30). 

The orbital and vibrational components of the wave functions as expanded in equation (46) are functions of the Cartesian coordinates.
