Changes seen after treatment may not be due to the treatment alone because untreated patients will generally improve because of regression-to-the mean. There is therefore a need to disentangle the treatment effect from regression-to-the-mean. In order to this we need concurrent randomised controls. 

The simple method just described is applicable as it stands only to isotropic solids, that is, to glasses and amorphous solids in general, and to crystals belonging to the cubic system. In all other crystals the refractive index varies with the direction of vibration of the light in the crystal the optical phenomena are more complex, and it is necessary to disentangle them. 

In Germany, as well as generally in Europe, multivariate methods (PCA and PMF) are the predominantly applied tools (see [1]). Their main advantage is that no information about emission sources is needed, and sources or processes so far not registered in an emission inventory may be detected. On the other hand, the analytical effort to be invested is considerably higher than for the previous methods since these models need enough data to disentangle the sources and source... 

For hydrophilic water-soluble polymers, hydration is the first step of dissolution in aqueous solutions, followed by dissolution of the hydrated phase. The latter step involves disentanglement of polymer molecules. In general, the dissolution kinetics follow Eq. (5.2), suggesting that the solubility of polymers and the viscosity of the hydrated phase are the major variables affecting the dissolution rate. Diffusion of dissolved drug molecules through the hydrated polymer layer also may contribute to the overall release kinetics. 

At the fundamental level, current understanding of crazing and fracture in semicrystalline polymers remains less advanced than in glassy polymers.
