General Conclusion Regarding Magnesium Activation

In general it can be stated that modern developments in the preparation of active magnesium have been extremely helpful to overcome starting problems of reactions of organo halides with this metal. 

The preparation of Grignard reagents at low temperatures, even the preparation of phenylmagnesium fluoride at — 20 °C, demonstrates the versatility of such developments. 

Unfortunately, application of these new techniques and these new, active, forms of magnesium has not yet been studied to a large extent in one-step processes the examples published so far, however, had promising results albeit that they lack sufficient theoretical background for their interpretation. 

It is to be expected that future work may shed more light on the relatively unexplored field of Mg-Barbier reactions.
