General Chemical Process Safety Books

The Center for Chemical Process Safety s projects fall into a number of general topic areas that comprise a comprehensive program. These topic areas include identification of hazards and analysis of risks, prevention and mitigation of the hazards identified, and better definition of areas affected by a release of hazardous materials. This book is the latest in the series dealing with hazard identification and risk analysis. [Pg.281]

A major reason for the neglect of human error in the chemical process industry is simply lack of knowledge of its significance for safety, reliability, and quality. It is also not generally appreciated that methodologies are available for addressing error in a systematic, scientific manner. This book is aimed at rectifying this lack of awareness. [Pg.73]

Why use SCFs as solvents for chemical reactions There are numerous advantages associated with the use of SCFs in chemical synthesis, all of which are based on the unique combination of properties of either the materials themselves or the supercitical state. Different types of reactions may benefit particularly from a specific property, and these sometimes spectacular effects will be discussed in detail in the individual chapters of the book. Here, we try to summarize briefly the various potential improvements that can be expected if SCFs are employed as solvents for synthetically useful chemical reactions. The advantages fall into four general categories environmental benefits, health and safety benefits, process benefits, and chemical benefits (Table 1.1-3). [Pg.9]

This guide concentrates primarily on chemical reaction hazards, but it must be emphasized that these process hazards must not be considered in isolation. Attention should be paid to all sources of hazard and the statutory requirements and the appropriate measures taken. What follows refers in most cases to relevant UK legislation similar statutory requirements apply in many other countries and readers should make appropriate mental adjustments as they progress through the book. The Health and Safety at Work, etc Act 1974 and subsidiary legislation controls health and safety at work in the UK. The Act imposes general duties on employers for the safety of employees and persons who may be affected by their undertakings. [Pg.1]
