Gene expression regulatory proteins

Finally, the rate of initiation of RNA synthesis can be controlled by auxiliary regulatory proteins that affect the rate of formation of the polymerase-promoter complex. According to their positive or negative action on gene expression, regulatory proteins are known as activators or repressors, respectively. Activators augment polymerase binding to the promoter, whereas repressors have the opposite effect. [Pg.769]

BLIMPl a protein that acts as a repressor of beta-interferon gene expression. The protein binds specifically to the PRDI (positive regulatory domain I element) of the 3-IFN gene promoter. Transcription of this gene increases upon virus induction. [Pg.769]

The network was built using IPA version 4. Transactivation. Protein synthesis is initiated or inhibited by the action of the activated GR on DNA. The use of glucocorticoids leads to antiinflammatory effects by first controlling gene expression, which subsequentiy leads to the synthesis and/or suppression of inflammation regulatory proteins. [Pg.98]
