Gelled fuels

CA 53, 17513 (1959). Materials useful as rocket fuels, semisolid or gelled fuels for bursting and tail-ejection-type bombs, and incendiary fuels for flame throwers and hand grenades are described. They are made by mixing 0.1-25% by wt of satd, unsatd, or aromatic nitrohydrocarbons or their mixts, such as nitro- or dinitromethane, -ethane, -propane, or -butane with divinylated ketoses or diaryl deoxyketitols prepd by reaction of C3 g ketose sugars with C6 M aromatic hydrocarbons. The latter include CfiH, toluene, naphthalene, anthracene and their alkylated derivs... [Pg.345]

Intermixing of gelled N204 UDMH (unsym-dimethylhydrazine) results in a fire if large surface areas of gelled fuel oxidizer come in contact. The fire is similar to.that which occurs when two hypergolic proplnts are... [Pg.701]

The fourth approach to the stabilization of heterogeneous fuels—by gelation of the liquid carrier—has been developed more thoroughly than the emulsification method. Hence, the gelled fuels are discussed in greater detail than emulsified fuels. However, some aspects of heterogeneous fuels are not related to mechanical stabilization when these are discussed in connection with gelled fuels, it will be apparent that the comments apply also to emulsified fuels. [Pg.346]

Preparation of gelled fuel requires a long time and vigorous mixing. [Pg.378]

Suitable for preparation of gelled fuel and its subsequent filling in bombs under field conditions. [Pg.379]

If the object is combustible, it burns vigorously under the heat flux from burning gelled fuel [63, 64]. [Pg.379]

NOTE A thicker gelled flame fuel can be obtained by putting the capped jar in hot (6S C) water for about 1/2 hour and then letting them cool to room temperature. (DO NOT HEAT THE GELLED FUEL CONTAINING COFFEE). [Pg.310]

Gelled Fuels. Gelled fuels generally have consisted of metallic powders such as aluminum or boron suspended in gelled MMH or an MMH blended fuel. These gels are applied to tactical missile applications. The gelled... [Pg.1223]
