Backlash is an important factor in proper spur gear installation. A certain amount of backlash must be built into the gear drive allowing for tolerances in concentricity and tooth form. Insufficient backlash will cause early failure... 

The example shown in Figure 4.35 is a tool electrode in the form of a spiral screw. It requires a special controller. The workpiece is clamped vertically and processed in theA" or y direction. Another possibility is to incorporate a spiral screw or a gear tooth in a rotated way into a tool, as shown in the example in Figure 4.36. 

Gear Pumps When two or more impellers are used in a rotary-pump casing, the impellers will take the form of toothed-gear wheels as in Fig. 10-54, of helical gears, or of lobed cams. In each case, these impellers rotate with extremely small clearance between them and between the surfaces of the impellers and the casing. Rotary positive displacement pumps. These have two or more impellers in the form of toothed gear wheels or lobed cams which rotate with an extremely small clearance between each other and the pump casing. They have to be primed and they produce a pulsed output. 

This chapter is intended to give the reader an overview of the various standardized types of chain and their uses. Chains may be classified in many different ways. From a theoretical viewpoint, ehain is a eontinuous flexible rack engaging the teeth on a pair of gears. Certainly, a sprocket, being a toothed wheel whose teeth are shaped to mesh with a chain, is a form of gear. From a viewpoint based on its history and development, chain is a mechanical belt running over sprockets that ean be used to transmit power or convey materials. Neither of these aspects relate to the praetieal standpoints of either the producer or the user of the product.
