Flange facings shall be suitable for the intended service and for the gaskets and bolting employed. 

No open process or chemical sewer drains should be under or in the drainage zone from a fired process heater since the heater could ignite flammable vapors present in the process/chemical sewer. Where pro-cess/chemical sewer drains are required at a fired heater during cleanup and maintenance, the drain openings should be sealed by a gasketed and bolted cover prior to startup of the heater. 

A sufficient liquid level in a reboiler used to supply steam to the column is important from a performance and safety standpoint. The reboiler is under a slight pressure and therefore must be a pressure vessel. It usually has a gasketed and bolted lid. Welded steam outlet and stillage return lines connect the reboiler to the column. The liquid return enters the reboiler below the desired liquid level. The outflow of bottoms can be controlled by regulating the back-pressure in the bottoms line, in turn controlling the level of liquid in the pot. The pot must be designed so it can be completely drained to ease clean-out. 

Pipe, valves, fittings, nuts, bolts, gaskets, and hangers... 

Among the topics of the TEMA Standards are nomenclature, fabrication tolerances, inspeclion, guarantees, tubes, shells, baffles and support plates, floating heads, gaskets, tube sheets, channels, nozzles, end flanges and bolting, materi specifications, and fouhng resistances. 

Software In some programmable electronic systems (PES), errors are much easier to detect and correct than in others. Using the term software, in the wider sense, to cover all procedures, as distinct from hardware or equipment, some software is much friendlier than others. Training and instructions are obvious examples. As another example, if many types of gaskets or nuts and bolts are stocked, sooner or later the wrong type will be installed. It is better, and cheaper in the long run, to keep the number of types stocked to a minimum, even though more expensive types than are strictly necessaiy are used for some applications. 

Make sure all gaskets are in good repair and bolts are properly tightened.

Flanged openings shall be provided with metal closures at least 5 mm (0.19 in.) thick, with elastomer gaskets and at least four full diameter bolts. For studded openings, all nuts needed for the intended service shall be used to secure closures. 

D. Little, Inc., report for Contract 210-76-0130 to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health(11) and are shown in Fig. 1. The cell was constructed of Pyrex 1720 glass with stainless steel membrane holders and stainless steel top covers. Gaskets for the cell were constructed from Teflon (trademark DuPont) with the test material placed between the gaskets and with the bolts tightened to a torque of 5 2.5 pounds. This torque was chosen because values less than 2.5 in pounds did not seal the protective material firmly,and torques greater than 7.5 in pounds would put such pressure on the material that it would tear or degrade rapidly at the points of contact. 

Parts are fairly easy to attach and change with metal systems it is mostly a matter of unbolting one unit and replacing it with another. Be sure to follow the bolting techniques described in Sec. 7.6.4 to ensure even cutting on gaskets and equal torque on flange surfaces.
