Gas Channel

Compaction of the filter bed over time will result in gas channeling and pressure-drop increases. This can be avoided by adding large, rigid particles such as plastic spheres, ceramics, or wood/bark chips to provide additional support to the filter substrate. [Pg.2193]

A main objective of the work of Hardt et al. was to study the influence of heat transfer on the achievable molar flux per unit reactor volume of the product species. They compared unstructured channels to channels containing micro fins such as shown in Figure 2.31. Heat transfer enhancement due to micro fins resulted in a different axial temperature profile with a higher outlet temperature in the reaction gas channel. Owing to this effect and by virtue of the temperature dependence... [Pg.225]

The macrokinetics of processes in gas-diffusion electrodes is analogous to that in liquid-phase electrodes. In calculations, one must take into account, however, that the electric current and the solute species will be carried only through that part of pore space which is electrolyte filled, whereas gas supply is accomplished primarily not by diffusion through the liquid but by flow in the gas channels. [Pg.342]

The speed of burning of fast igniter cord depends on the speed of burning of the blackpowder-coated yarns and this depends in turn on the gas channels left in the construction of the fuse. The remainder of the fuse is also combustible, so that there is no pressure build up due to lack of venting. Should a minor pin hole or break in the outside layers be produced and water enter, the incendiary composition will continue to burn so that the fuse will not fail, although it will slow down for the distance of the damage. [Pg.130]

This diffusion chamber was modified to provide a uniform flow from two channels at the entrance, one for the filtered room air and the other for the gas from the radon chamber. This modified mobility analyzer is schematically shown in Figure 2. The pressure heads are adjusted so that the gas velocities, v, are the same in both channels. An adjustable vertical electric field, E, is provided through the analyzer so that charged particles are drawn toward the detector located at x cm from the entrance. With the known distance, d, between the radon-laden gas channel and the detector implanted plate, the mobility can then be determined from... [Pg.363]

Using three-dimensionally structured adsorbent with a large number of uniform gas channels, the limitations of mass transfer kinetics and fluidization of the conventional beaded sorbents may be removed. Such structured adsorbents have been described in... [Pg.292]

Numerical experiments have shown that in many one dimensional systems with total momentum conservation, the heat conduction does not obey the Fourier law and the heat conductivity depends on the system size. For example, in the so-called FPU model, k IP, with (3 = 2/5, and if the transverse motion is introduced, / = 1/3. Moreover, in the billiard gas channels (with conserved total momentum), the value of P differs from model to model(Li and Wang, 2003). The question is whether one can relate / to the dynamical and statistical properties of the system. [Pg.16]

The simple relation (4) is in good agreement with existing data from billiard gas channels to nonlinear lattices, and even single walled nanotubes(Li et al, 2005). This is shown in Fig. 5, where we compare the theoretical prediction (4) with existing data in different models. [Pg.17]

Interconnects are formed into the desired shape using ceramic processing techniques. For example, bipolar plates with gas channels can be formed by tape casting a mixture of the ceramic powder with a solvent, such as trichloroethylene (TCE)-ethanol [90], Coating techniques, such as plasma spray [91] or laser ablation [92] can also be used to apply interconnect materials to the other fuel cell components. [Pg.186]

Most industrial catalysts are heterogeneous catalysts consisting of solid active components dispersed on the internal surface of an inorganic porous support. The active phases may consist of metals or oxides, and the support (also denoted the carrier) is typically composed of small oxidic structures with a surface area ranging from a few to several hundred m2/g. Catalysts for fixed bed reactors are typically produced as shaped pellets of mm to cm size or as monoliths with mm large gas channels. A catalyst may be useful for its activity referring to the rate at which it causes the reaction to approach chemical equilibrium, and for its selectivity which is a measure of the extent to which it accelerates the reaction to form the desired product when multiple products are possible [1],... [Pg.311]

The number of atoms of Xe or H2 in the putative gas channels represents a higher solubility for H2 in hydrogenase, than in water. The channels appear to concentrate the gas. It is interesting that one of the ways that has been discovered for storing H2... [Pg.182]
