Garnet color

Aq—489.8 + 108—is in garnet-colored scales, obtained by dissolving ferric hydrate in solution of citric acid and evaporating the solution at about 60° (140° F.). It loses 3 Aq at 120 (248 F.), and the remainder at 150° (302 F.). if a small quantity of ammonia be added before the evaporation, the product consists of the modifed citrate = ferri et ammonii citras (T,. ), which only reacts with pota um ferrocyanide after addition of... [Pg.129]

To a solution of 29.0 g methyl 3-(benzyloxy)-4-methyl-5-nitrobenzoate (0.0962 mol) in 60.0 mL DMF was added 12.0 mL freshly distilled pyrrolidine (0.144 mol) and 19.0 mL N, A-dimethylformamide dimethyl acetal (of 94% purity, 0.134 mol). The dark red colored reaction mixture was heated at 110°C for 3.5 h and concentrated on a rotary evaporator. Then 350 mL CH3OH and 15 mL CH2CI2 were added to the residue, and the solution was stored at 6°C for 12 h. The garnet colored precipitate was filtered and carefully washed with cold CH3OH. Upon removal of the solvent under high vacuum, 23.24 g of a 10 1 mixture of pyrrolidino-styrene and N, A-dimethylamino-styrene was obtained, in a yield of 64%. [Pg.260]

Gadolinium yttrium garnets are used in microwave applications and gadolinium compounds are used as phosphors in color television sets. [Pg.188]

Silver-colored, ductile metal that is attacked slowly by air and water. The element exhibits interesting magnetic properties. Found in television tubes. Laser material such as YAG (yttrium-aluminum garnet) doped with holmium (as well as chromium and thulium) can be applied in medicine, especially in sensitive eye operations. [Pg.146]

Yttrium(Y), 14 644, 645 Yttrium aluminosilicate (YAS) glass microspheres, 12 612 Yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG), 19 411 color, 7 331... [Pg.1031]

Yttrium alloys have many applications. The metal doped with rare earths such as europium is used as phosphor for color television receivers. When added to iron, chromium, vanadium, niobium, and other metals it enhances resistance of these metals and their alloys to high temperature oxidation and recrystallization. It is a deoxidizer for vanadium and other nonferrous metals. Yttrium-aluminum garnets are used in lasers and in jewelery gemstones. Yttrium-iron garnets are used as transmitters and as transducers of acoustic energy. [Pg.977]

The oxide is used in phosphors that form red color in color television tubes. Also, it is used in gas mantles and acetylene hghts. Other uses are in yttrium-iron garnets for microwave filters in lasers, and as a stabdizer for high temperature in refractories. [Pg.979]

The natural garnet in our study consisted of ten samples with different colors. The laser-induced time-resolved technique enables us to detect trivalent rare-earth elements, Mn " and possibly Mn emission centers (Figs. 4.56-4.57). [Pg.102]

Syrian Garnet.—This stono, which was anciently termed carbuncle, has a lively color, for which it is much esteemed. It is especially employed for small jewels. The artificial garnet is a kind of dark ruby, and is made after the following formula —... [Pg.240]
