However, the amount of water was virtually independent of the laundry weight and therefore the washing of smaller loads became ineffective. New techniques, such as the Mengenautomatik , created a correlation between the wash load and the water requirement. A consumption of 70 1 of water for 5 kg of laundry and 50 1 for 1 kg was achieved. This is clearly a noticeable reduction, but there was still a wide gap between the specific water consumption of large and small laundry loads. With a full load it was possible to wash with 14 1/kg, while a 1 kg load still required 50 1/kg (Fig. 5.63). The Mengenautomatik was therefore a solution that in time could not keep up with the growing environmental awareness of both manufacturers and consumers. [Pg.191]

To achieve further improvements to the washing process, an option was integrated with which it was possible for the user to reduce the water level in the [Pg.191]

When the washing machines with conventional controls are optimized further, more and more decisions have to be left to the user, even though the consumer is not in the situation to check whether or not these decisions are right. The users are only able to evaluate whether the wash result meets with their demands or not, they cannot prove how the same result could have been reached with a reduced use of raw materials. To avoid such a problem, AEG have moved on to the third phase of the development of washing techniques. With the help of the concepts of FUZZY LOGIC, a washing machine has been invented that adapts its wash processes to the demands of the laundry in order to offer the most in easy operation and ecology. [Pg.192]
