Funding taxonomy research

Scratchpads (Smith et al., 2009) were developed through European Union-funded European Distributed Institute of Taxonomy (EDIT) project as a data-publishing framework for groups of people to create their own virtual research communities supporting natural history science. These cater to the particular needs of individual research communities through a common database and system architecture. This is based on the Drupal content management system and provides a scalable, flexible resource that facilitates the collaboration of distributed communities of taxonomists.
