Functions of T Cells

It is a purine antimetabolite which has marked effect on T-lymphocytes, suppresses cell mediated immunity (CMI). It selectively affects differentiation and functions of T cells and inhibits cytolytic lymphocytes. It is used primarily as immunosuppressant in organ transplantation, progressive rheumatoid arthritis and some other autoimmune diseases.

Murnmonab-CD3 blocks the function of T cells that are involved in acute renal rejection. Hence, it is indicated for the treatment of acute allograft rejection in heart and liver transplant recipients resistant to standard steroid thcrapie.s.

A dichotomy exists in the functions of T cells some cells (Th) promote the production of antibody, whereas others (Ts cells) suppress it (Gershon et al., 1981). 

DCs that directly suppress the effector function of T cells mainly via secretion of IL-10 (b). Inhibited differentiation of immature DCs into fully functional proinflammatory DCs or redirection of mature DCs into an immature-like state prevents naive T cells from antigen-specific activation (c). Mature DCs providing incomplete costimulatory signals induce anergic or tolerant T cells (d).
