Only large gas turbines of multi-MWei size and low rpm diesel engine generators of 1 MW and more can display efficiencies above 40% [11], thus competing with modem coal-fired power plants. Nevertheless, considering the avoidance of grid losses and the dramatically increased total conversion efficiency, a clear case can be made for CHP units with respect to reductions in CO2 emissions and fossil fuel savings. 

As for Ukraine, it has Renoks, an antidetonation modifier developed by Prof. Yu. Merezhko of the Ukrainian State University of Chemical Engineering in Dnepropetrovsk. It offers a 1.5 to 2-fold reduction in pollutant emissions and an 8 % cut in fuel consumption at the cost of 1.0 to 1.5 % of fuel price. Also available are Remol-2 and Remol-2A produced by Remol in Odessa. These oil additives can be recommended for both carburetor and diesel engines after 40,000 km run to recover and stabilize compression, save up to 8 % fuel, protect engine components and reduce hazardous substances in exhaust gases. 

A 2002 report by the National Academy of Sciences stated that automobile fuel economy could be increased by 12% for small cars and up to 42% for large SUVs. The study did not include the greater use of diesels and hybrids. Other studies have indicated that even greater savings are possible while maintaining or increasing passenger safety. 

Use this procedure for any fluid—crude oil, kerosene, benzene, gasoline, naptha, fuel oil, Bunker C, diesel oil toluene, etc. The tables and charts presented here and in the Pipe Friction Manual save computation time. 

In addition, slight material changes to diesel fuel systems, and a strict quality standard for biodiesel in the United States, could lead to substantially greater savings in petroleum usage and reductions in C02 emissions.

Studies showed that a BESS on the MP L system could (i) help stabilize and improve the power quality of the system, i.e., reduce voltage and frequency deviations (ii) reduce reliance on the diesel generator, and thus realize attendant savings in fuel-related costs.
