Isol. from the hydrolysate of Marike gum from Anogeissus schimperi and from gum ghatti. Cryst. (EtOH aq.). [Pg.494]

Gum Ghatti. Gum ghatti [9000-28-617 is an exudate from Anogeissus latifolia, a tree that is found in India and Sri Lanka. The exudations are natural, but yields can be increased by making artificial incisions. The sun-dried gum is classified according to color and impurities and processed by grinding to a fine powder. [Pg.434]

The most extensively studied exudate gum from this plant family is that from Anogeissus latifolia which is known as gum ghatti or Indian gum (Chap. 10.2.6). This polysaccharide has a main chain of alternating )8-D-glucopyranosyluronic acid units substituted at 0-4 and D-mannopyranosyl units substituted at 0-2 (30, 162). The D-mannopyranosyl units constitute double branch points. The side chains contain L-arabinopyranosyl, L-arabinofuranosyl, D-galactopyranosyl, and D-glucopyranosyluronic acid units. [Pg.169]

Gum ghatti is an exudate from the tree Anogeissus latifolia found in India and Ceylon. [Pg.309]

This has prompted research activities all over the world to find alternative feedstocks for polymers. Agricultural by-products and forest products have become more attractive these days as renewable resources for polymers and plastics additives. Plant exudates such as gum arable, gum ghatti, gum karaya, gum tragacanth etc. have been used in textiles, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals mainly as emulsifiers and thicknersl. Other types of gums from seed such as guar gum have similarly been used. But these have not been utilized as the raw material for polymer manufacture. [Pg.130]

The determination of volatile acidity is of value in detecting adulteration of tragacanth with Karaya gum (also known as Indian tragacanth) from Sterculia species and with Gum Ghatti (Indian gum) from Anogeissm latifolidy and the following method is recommended ... [Pg.646]

A wide variety of plant exudates have been used ia foods and medicines for centuries, including acacia, karaya, and ghatti. Plant gums derived from seeds iaclude arabic, guar, locust bean, tamatind, and tara. AH play a role ia fat replacement either singly or ia mixtures. [Pg.119]
