Freeze drying ingestion

Ingestion of iron with a meal supplemented with 4.2 g of freeze-dried chili significantly inhibited iron absorption (Tuntipopipat et al. 2006). [Pg.166]

Recently, two hiunan studies with black raspberries have been published. Coloreetal cancer patients were administered 60 g/day of freeze-dried powder for approximately 3 weeks (10-63 days). A daily dose of 60 g/day provided 1,669 mg of anthocyanins. Before and after the treatment with black raspberries, plasma levels of the cytokines IL-ip, IL-2, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-12p70, granulocyte macrophage colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF), IFN-y, and TNF-a were measured. Berry administration increased plasma GM-CSF concentrations, and patients who ingested berries for more than 10 days also had decreased E.-8 plasma concentrations. An increase in IL-8 has been noted in colorectal carcinoma [38]. [Pg.59]

Contrary to written lore on Salvia divinorum, the leaves can be dried. If you grow the plant, you may only have enough leaves for fresh ingestion in the summer and fall. I cut my plants back in the wintertime--in case it freezes. I have had little success with freezing the leaves, or juicing them and freezing the juice. Maybe it would work. I just find the juice harder to use than the leaves. [Pg.176]

The chemistry laboratory has additional hazards. Open flames, ovens and furnaces can cause fires and bums. Cold storage rooms and their contents, notably dry ice and liquid nitrogen, may cause freeze burns. Corrosive acids and other chemicals can cause chemical skin bums and internal damage from inhalation, ingestion and absorption through the skin. Many chemicals are poisonous chemicals should not be tested by taste or smell. Compressed gases constitute inhalation, explosion and fire hazards if handled improperly. [Pg.298]
