Frans-Ocimene

The volatiles showed variation in different environments. The composition of the oil from the fresh aerial parts of A. graveolensvai. secalinum (at the flowering stage) obtained from three locations in Egypt revealed that the main components were a- and /3-pinene, myrcene, limonene, cis-jl- ocimene, y-terpinene, cis-allo-ocimene, frans-farnesene, humulene, apiol, /3-selinene, senkyunolide and neocnidilide (Saleh et al., 1985). The chief component in the essential oils from fruits, and to a lesser extent in the leaves and stems, was limonene, whereas the roots and tubers had more frans-ocimene, 3-methyl-... 

Cestrum. Among the odoriferous volatile floral constituents of C. noctumum the monoterpenes cis- and fran -ocimene and the monoterpenoid linalool could be detected (Fig. 7.2) (Li et al. 1988).

Van Ruth et al. (1995) described the flavour components in bell peppers. Out of 47 compounds identified, 12 could be detected by assessors at a sniffing port on a gas chromatograph. 3(2220) 2-Methylpropanal,9 2-methylbutanal, 10 3-methylbutanal, 13(2370) 2,3-butanedione, 15(3382) l-penten-3-one, 19(2557) hexanal, 25(2540) heptanal, 29 P-ocimene, 35 frans-3-hepten-2-one, 39 dimethyltrisulphide, 45(3132) 2-isobutyl-3-methoxypyrazine and 47(3639) P-cyclocitral were the major compounds. 

The usual laboratory procedure for the preparation of 8-myrcene (2) involves heating linalool (1) with a trace of iodine in vacuum at 150-160°. A recent study showed that 8-myrcene is accompanied by frans-/3-ocimene (3) and a trace of the CIS isomer. The main products are readily separated by fractionation and obtained in the yields indicated. 

The epoxidation of terpenic substrates is of interest in the flavor and fragrance industry [55,56]. Terpenes are derivatives of isoprene, which has formula CsHg (2-methyl-frans-butadiene). There are tens of examples of terpenes, including limonene, a-pinene, geraniol, citronellol, myrcene, ocimene, camphene, a-terpin-eol, menthol, and isopugelol. Limonene is an abundant monoterpene extracted from citrus oil, which can be epoxidized to obtain fragrances, perfumes, and...
