As pointed out previously, prior to the utilization of ESI-MS for lipid analysis, other ionization techniques were used to characterize many of these metabolites with or without derivatization. These techniques are also briefly mentioned in the chapter. Moreover, numerous review articles summarized the results from the studies of these compounds are available [1-3], which could be consulted for the advanced readers.
