A few years later, I returned to the Haight and conducted a televised interview with Dr. David Smith. He had started the Free Clinic, but I never really got to know him while I was working there. When Pershing returned from Mexico, there was some concern that marihuana had infiltrated the American ranks, although an official inquiry failed to turn up any proof to that effect.
