Formulations, solid advantages

Application to solid polymer/additive formulations is restricted, for obvious reasons. SS-ETV-ICP-MS (cup-in-tube) has been used for the simultaneous determination of four elements (Co, Mn, P and Ti) with very different furnace characteristics in mg-size PET samples [413]. The results were compared to ICP-AES (after sample dissolution) and XRF. Table 8.66 shows the very good agreement between the various analytical approaches. The advantage of directly introducing the solid sample in an ETV device is also clearly shown by the fact that the detection limit is even better than that reported for ICP-HRMS. The technique also enables speciation of Sb in PET, and the determination of various sulfur species in aramide fibres. ETV offers some advantages over the well-established specific sulfur analysers very low sample consumption the possibility of using an aqueous standard for calibration and the flexibility to carry out the determination of other analytes. The method cannot be considered as very economic. 

Baked goods are the oldest known compounded foods made by mankind. Each ingredient is selected for one or more specific purposes based on contribution to functionality and compatibility, and on relative cost. Bakery products formulators are receptive to new ideas, and vegetable proteins (primarily flours and concentrates) have been well-accepted when they show a cost advantage, for example, soy flours as replacements for dried nonfat milk solids and dried eggs.

Crosslinks can be controlled by the number of unsaturated sites in the polyester prepolymer. Theoretically if each molecule has only two reaction sites, then infinite, almost linear, chains could be obtained. Hence, average functionability and molecular weight distribution in the prepolymer are extremely important. Plasticizers can be used to advantage in adjusting the average properties of the binder as obtained in the solid propellant formulation. 

This is suitable for the formulations in which the percentage of solid ingredients, suspended in liquid is to be increased. The advantage of density difference between the molten medium and suspended particles is used in this process. The concentration of heavier particles is increased in the lower part of the casing either by natural sedimentation or by forced sedimentation caused by vibrating the whole casting assembly. The sedimentation process is controlled by a number of parameters such as particle size of solid suspension, temperature of melt, period of sedimentation, viscosity of melt, concentration of solid ingredients and column of melt etc.
