Soluble core molding The soluble core technology (SCT) is called by different names such as soluble fusible metal core technology (FMCT), fusible core, lost-core, and lost-wax techniques (3). In this process, a core [usually molded of a low melting alloy (eutectic mixture) but can also use water soluble TPs, wax formulations, etc.] is inserted into a mold such as an injection molding mold. This core can be of thin wall or solid construction.

The release behavior depends on both the choice of polymer and on the formulation procedure. The best results were obtained with injection-molded samples. For prototypical drugs like p-nitroaniline, the drug release pattern followed closely that of the polymer degradation over a period of 9 months for PCPP. The correlation between release and degradation was still maintained in the more hydrophilic PCPP-SA, 20 80, where both processes were completed in 2 weeks. Compression molding can also be used for these polymers, but the correlation between drug release and polymer degradation is not as...

More than 0.3% pigment is required to formulate 1/3 SD HDPE samples. P.Gr.36 is thus much weaker than P.Gr.7 types, although it withstands more than 300°C and is thus equally heat stable. Considerable influence on the shrinkage of injection-molded polyethylene parts necessitates some caution in using P.Gr.36 for this purpose. Many types are difficult to disperse in plastics, especially in polyolefins. 

Transparent and reduced 1/3 SD polyolefin systems are stable up to 300 to 320°C. 0.25% pigment is required in order to formulate 1/3 SD HDPE samples containing 1% TiOz. P.O.43, incorporated in injection-molded partially crystalline plastics such as HDPE, affects the shrinkage of the medium, which precludes its use in nonrotation symmetrical injection-molded articles (Sec. 1.6.4.3). 

PCT forms the basis of a family of reinforced, crystalline plastics for injection molding. As mentioned above, the high melting point of the polymer is a key property, as this results in high heat deflection temperatures (HDTs) in glass-fiber-reinforced formulations. Good toughness, flow into the mold, and rapid crystallization are also important in these applications.

The reliable generation of deton press under 100 kilobars should offer advantages from an engineering viewpoint in applications where higher pressures are neither needed nor desired. Certain plastic/expl formulations described (Ref 1) offer these advantages in addition to others, such as the capability of being extruded or injection molded into difficult configurations and then polymerized in place. Expls included superfine PETN, acetone fine RDX, dextrinated LA and Thallous Azide...
