Forest-restoration projects

The tropical dry forests that occur as fragments within pine savannas in the Horida Everglades are extremely well protected by the National Park Service. By June 2001, more than 150 multi-country projects had been registered with the UNFCCC. Most of these related to renewable energy and energy efficiency, but the largest involved forest preservation or restoration. 

In order to create functional types using data contained within Floras we have explored two basic approaches text analysis and data matrix analysis. We will illustrate the advantages and disadvantages of both approaches with Floras for East African trees. Our analysis sought to produce a functional gradient to aid selection of species for restoration in Mabira Forest Reserve, Uganda and the Man Forest Complex, Kenya, as part of an European Union-funded project, FOREAIM. ...
