Engineering forensic

Forensic science is an applied science having a focus on practical scientific issues that come up during criminal investigations or at trial. Some components ate unique to the field because it is conducted within the legal arena. Forensic science issues in chemistry and biochemistry in criminal investigations are discussed herein. There are a host of other forensic science areas, eg, forensic medicine, forensic dentistry, forensic anthropology, forensic psychiatry, and forensic engineering, any of which may overlap with forensic chemistry. 

Carper, in Chapter 11 of his book Forensic Engineering,recognizes a primary and a secondary audience and acknowledges the reality that the report should not be expected to reach all audiences and satisfy all questions. Professional Accident Investigation by Kuhlman ) develops the concept that different levels of management have different needs and priorities. The report should anticipate and address questions the intended user might be expected to ask.

In the general field of forensic science many disciplines of science have been applied. Some do not use GC in their particular application and are beyond the scope of this chapter. For example, these would include such areas as forensic archeology, forensic engineering, forensic anthropology, fingerprint examination, forensic odontology, forensic psychiatry, and many more.

There is a growing interest in the investigation of iled materials. Since long time ago, a lot of efforts have been devoted to the analysis of failures in metallic parts and structures. Some recent texts are focused in post-failure analysis of polymeric materials (Lewis and Gagg 2010) and polymer composite (Greenhalgh 2009). Most adhesives are polymers, and they are used nowadays in an uncountable number of applications in everyday Kfe, especially applications where a failure in service may lead to economic loss, injury, or death. The ability to determine the cause of failure using forensic engineering techniques is essential.
