Isoflurane (Forane) is a volatile liquid given by inhalation. It is used for induction and maintenance of anesthesia. [Pg.321]

In terms of action, isoflnrane is analogons to enflurane however, it has a somewhat pungent odor which sometimes canses difficnlties. Forane is a synonym of isoflurane. [Pg.3]

Isoflurane (Forane) is a structural isomer of enflurane and produces similar pharmacological properties some analgesia, some neuromuscular blockade, and depressed respiration. In contrast, however, isoflurane is considered a particularly safe anesthetic in patients with ischemic heart disease, since cardiac output is maintained, the coronary arteries are dilated, and the myocardium does not appear to be sensitized to the effects of catecholamines. Also, blood pressure falls as a result of vasodilation, which preserves tissue blood flow. Isoflurane causes transient and mUd tachycardia by direct sympathetic stimulation this is particularly important in the management of patients with myocardial ischemia. [Pg.304]

A patient whose anesthesia is being managed only with isoflurane (Forane) delivered at an inspired concentration near the MAC occasionally moves and exhibits facial grimacing, apparently in response to surgical manipulation of the bowel. These responses are... [Pg.307]

Isoflurane (forane, others Figure 13-3) is a volatile liquid at room temperature and is neither flammable nor explosive in mixtures of air or oxygen. [Pg.234]

Isoflurane (Forane) Least likely to T right atrial pressure, depress myocardial function, or sensitize myocardium to catecholamines. Greatly i systemic vascular resistance. Marked T heart rate Least potent suppressor of ventilation control and bronchodilation. Marked suppression of hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstrictor response, little effect on secretions. [Pg.52]
