Foods Acetylsalicylic acid

Among the food additives mentioned as associated with adverse reaction (most frequently dermatitis) are sodium metabisulfite (White et al. 1982), persulfate (Hafner et al. 1992), acetylsalicylic acid (Sainte-Laudy 2001), aspartame, sorbit acid, propyl gallate, dodecyl gallate, karaya gum (Sikora et al. 2008) (Tables 14.4.1 and 14.4.4). [Pg.381]

Alcohol, acetylsalicylic acid and NSAIDs should be avoided. There is no advantage to be gained from not consuming certain foods (such as spices) or from the long-term intake of H2 blockers. [Pg.360]

By law all drugs sold in the United States must meet purity standards set by the Food and Drug Administration, and so all aspirin is essentially the same. Each 5-grain tablet contains 0.325 g of acetylsalicylic acid held together with a binder. The remarkable difference in price for aspirin is primarily a reflection of the advertising budget of the company that sells it. [Pg.270]

Salicylic acid (2) is also used as preservative of food products, but its use for this purpose is forbidden in some countries, many methyl salicylates, acetylsalicylic acid and other salicylates, dyes, as reagents in analtyical chemistry. [Pg.446]

Salicylic acid is a precursor to aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid), a widely used nonprescription drug for pain and fever relief. Salicylic acid is also a key component of a wide range of cosmetic (mostly skin care) products in addition, it is also used as food preservative and antiseptic (e.g., in toothpaste). [Pg.252]

Acetic anhydride is an important industrial reagent. Over one-half its annual production of approximafely 750,000 fons is used for the manufacture of cellulose acetate. Cellulose acetate is a wddely used textile fiber and is the chief component of cigarette filters. Acetic anhydride is the acetylation reagent used for the production of aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid). Succinic anhydride finds use in the succinylation of gelatin used as a blood plasma substitute, as a food preservative in chicken against Salmonella, and as a dog food preservative. [Pg.353]
