Flux cored arc welding

Cored electrode consists of a metal sheath surrounded by a core of fluxing and alloying compounds. Core components perform essentially the same function as the coating in covered electrode. Cored electrode is used for flux-cored arc welding. 

Arc Joins or cuts metal parts by heat generated from an electric arc that extends between the welding electrode and the electrode placed on the equipment being welded. Includes gas-metal arc welding (also called metal inert gas welding) and flux-core arc welding (mistakenly called core wire welding). 

The electrode used for semiautomatic and fiilly automatic flux-cored arc welding is mechanically fed through a welding gun or welding jaws into the arc from a continuously wound coil that weighs approximately 50 pounds.

Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) uses a wire containing a flux and gas generating compounds for self-shielding, although flux-cored wire is preferred with additional shielding gas for certain conditions. Limited to carbon steels and lower welding rates.
