Fluoropolymers pigments

Stripes may be appHed to wire coated with ETEE fluoropolymer over DuLite 817-5002 fluoropolymer clear enamel or other bases. Thermally stable pigments are required. Stripes may be appHed by gravure-wheel-type appHcators and oven-cured in-line. [Pg.370]

Fluoropolymer resins are covered in the United States by Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act 21 CFR and 177.1380 and 177.1550 and in the European Union by the EC Directive 90/128 [5]. Several fluoroplastics (e.g., PTFE, PEA, FEP) have been approved by the FDA for contact with food. Additives, such as stabilizers, antioxidants, and pigments, must be approved to meet the food additive regulations if they have no prior clearance [5]. [Pg.185]

This section does not cover the topic of coatings and finishes. These finishes are usually highly formulated and are applied as multiple-pass coatings which include special primers and intermediate layers. They may include pigments, additives, other resins, and more than one fluoropolymer. The main applications of fluoropolymer finishes are in cookware and industrial anticorrosion and high-temperature uses. A separate volume, Fluorinated Coatings and Finishes, a Plastics Design Library (PDL) volume in the Fluorine Handbook Series published by William Andrew, Inc., covers the topic. [Pg.185]

Filled or compounded resins contain pigments, surfactants, and other additives to modify the plastic properties. These additives are likely to present risks and hazards in the processing of fluoropolymer compounds. For example, aqueous dispersions of fluoropolymers contain surfactants that may produce... [Pg.385]

Fluoropolymer resins are covered by Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, 21 CFR 177.1380 177.1550 in the United States and EC Directive 90/128 in the European Union. The US Food and Drug Administration has approved many fluoropolymers (e.g., PTFE, PFA, and FEP) for food contact. Additives such as pigments, stabilizers, antioxidants, and others must be approved under a food additive regulation if they do not have prior clearance. [Pg.391]

In the disposal of fluoropol5mer scrap containing pigments, additives, or solvents, additional consideration must be given to the regulation for the disposal of the non-fluoropolymer ingredients. Some of the compounds and mixtures may require compliance with Hazardous Material Acts. [Pg.392]

It is made by emulsion polymerization, spray-dried and sold as a fine particle powder. Pigment and fluoropolymer particles are separately dispersed in a solution of an acrylic copolymer compatible with PVdF, the two dispersions being blended to give the final paint. After application of paint, the coil is heated to 240-260 °C in 30-60 s, when the PVdF particles melt and lose their identify, forming a blend with the acrylic. [Pg.165]

The DuPont product is named Viton FreeFlow SC and RC and, unlike earlier types of fluoropolymer additives, they can be mixed into many pigmented masterbatches, with less interaction. The Dyneon grades are marketed as Dynamar PPA. The latest fluorocarbons comply with most world food contact legislation. [Pg.202]

Fluoropolymer-based additives are very useful, offering low temperature processability, chemical resistance, weatherability, self-extinguishing, and flexibility. Available as powders, pellets, dispersions or master batch concentrate (at additions of 250-1000 ppm), they are designed for use in PO film extrusion to eliminate melt fracture or problems arising from die build-up when running PO polymer with fillers and pigments [17, 59]. [Pg.829]
