Radiation-induced graft copolymerization is an alternative modification approach for preparation of PEMs, commonly prepared by grafting of styrene or its derivatives onto fluoro-polymer films and subsequent sulfonation. These manbranes have been found to possess excellent combinations of physicochemical and thermal properties. However, chemical stability remains the main challenge precluding the implementation of such mmbranes in commercial fuel cell systems despite many successful laboratory tests in the short and medium terms. Various approaches have... [Pg.404]

A detailed ESCA examination has been made of the nature of the surface fluoro-polymer produced by interaction of high density polyethylene films with fluorine diluted in nitrogen which demonstrate the great potential of ESCA in this area. The topics discussed will include inter alia ... [Pg.373]

Encouraged by the X-ray and contact angle results, we performed some preliminary gas-permeation measurements. Here, a self-supporting film is required and only the longer block copolymers were used. Fluoro-PSB-II and Fluoro-triblock were coated on porous Celgard 2400 membranes the measurements were taken at room temperature at a driving pressure of 5 bars. Since no absolute polymer layer thickness has been determined, only relative values of the permeability are given (Table 10.6). In the case of the separation of C02 from... [Pg.163]

The first application of GLC in carbohydrate chemistry was to separate fully methylated methyl glycopyranosides of simple pentoses and hexoses (10), and much literature now covers these derivatives (II, 12, 13, 14). Shortly after this work, acetate derivatives were examined by various workers (15, 16), and a little later another development was the use of these acetates with thin-film columns containing liquid phases of high thermal stability such as silicone polymers (e.g., SE-30) and fluoro-alkyl silicone polymers (e.g., QF-1) (17). [Pg.11]

When immobilized in a polymer-plasticizer matrix, (dppe)Pt S2C2(2-py) (CH2CH2OH), can be used for the rapid selective detection of volatile fluoro-, chloro-, and cyanophosphates (Table III, Fig. 10). As with many film immobilized lumiphores, the reactivity is controlled by the immobilizing matrix (39-44, 46, 50-52, 57, 58, 63, 75-77) Such an effect is seen as the sensitivity to phosphate esters increases as plasticizer (triethyl citrate, TEC) concentration increases in the cellulose acetate CA/TEC film (Table IV). [Pg.388]

PPS and PEEK blended with a fluoro(co)-polymers and reinforced with either CF or GF were wear resistant with a short break-in period for forming a self lubricating film [Davies and Hatton, 1994]. Many commercial blends contain fluoropolymers (primarily PTFE) for the improved weatherability, wear and solvent resistance SUPEC — self-lubricating blend of crystalline PPS with PTFE and 30 wt% GF, Lubricomp blends from LNP and similar/JTP blends from RTP Co. (e.g., 15 wt% PTFE, 30 wt% GF and any of the following resins ABS, PA, PEST, PC, PE, PEI, POM, PP, PPE, PPS, PS, PSF, PVDF, SAN, TPU, PEEK, PES, etc.), Sumiploy from Sumitomo Chem. Co., etc. [Utracki, 1994]. [Pg.80]
