Aluminium and beryllium The metals are present as chlorides in dilute hydrochloric acid. The solvent consists of 80 per cent n-butyl alcohol and 20 per cent hydrochloric acid. After elution overnight, the solvent front moves about 20 cm. The positions of the aluminium and beryllium bands are shown by spraying with an alcoholic solution of 8-hydroxyquinoline.
