Accordingly, a wide range of methods can be employed for LA determination, but only a few can be considered simple, economical, and fast enough for use in any analytical laboratory regardless of levels of experience. An effective response to laboratories requirements for LA determination is the development of an analytical system based on automation and flow management solutions, chemical processes, and sample preparation. Analytical systems based on principles of flow injection analysis (FIA) are simple to construct and easy to operate, thus allowing the accommodation of different protocols for LA determination in food and beverages.

Some biosensors were designed to follow the different stages of a production line one by one, by semi-condnuous measurement. In this case, the biosensor is used with a system of flow injection analysis (FIA). Small sample volumes are used, and the problems of contamination in the fermentation industry can be avoided. There are also applications in biomedical analysis laboratories, where faster methods reduce the cost of each analysis. Finally, the automadon of FIA is possible using a microcomputer for data collection and management of the various steps of biosensor calibration and measurement. 

Another alternative for designing multi-commuted flow systems operating in the pumping mode is to exploit syringes as fluid propulsion devices. This led to the proposal of multi-syringe flow injection analyser by Albertus et al. in 1999 [109] as an advanced means of managing multichannel flow analysis.
