Flexographic printing press

H-Propanol and ri-propyl acetate account for about 70% of the U.S. propionaldehyde derivative market. These compounds are used principally in flexographic and gravure inks which require volatile solvents to prevent smearing and ink accumulation on the printing presses. Some propanol is also converted into n-propylamines which aie important pesticide intermediates. -Propanol is also employed as a precursor for glycol ethers. 

Flexographic printing is printing process that uses a flexible relief plate. The basic principles of this method can be foimd elsewhere (18,19). The first patent for a flexographic type printing press dates from 1909, even when such machines were fabricated earlier (20).

Roll coating utilizes a patterned roll, which is partially immersed in a reservoir of heated adhesive and transferred directly to the web material. There are four principal classes of printing ink, which vary considerably in physical appearance, composition, method of appHcation, and drying mechanism. These also fall into two general types of consistency or viscosity, paste and Hquid. The classes are letter press and Hthographic (Utho) inks, which are called paste inks, and flexographic (flexo) and rotogravure (gravure) inks, which are called Hquid inks (1). 

Today, flexographic presses and letterpress presses, for newspaper printing, use t q)es made of photo-sensitive polymeric materials that can be formed directly from a light image. The polymeric cylinder when properly developed presents raised areas that reproduce the image to be printed.
