Flame retardants coated fillers

Other materials may include pigments and fillers, surfactants, mold release/lubricants, and flame retardants. Coatings will have additional components, including UV stabilizers and hindered amine light stabilizers. [Pg.3825]

Finally, specification sheet 82 covers an FR-4 material catalyzed for an additive copperplating process. A catalyst used for this material is a kaolin clay filler coated with palladium. In short, there are many combinations of resin system, flame retardant and filler that can result in many types of FR-4. [Pg.127]

Fillers. Inert inorganic substances such as calcium carbonate, clay, silicates, and asbestos are often utilized in vinyl compositions where clarity is not a requirement. While the carbonates and clay are used ostensibly to reduce cost, beneficial results are forthcoming. The carbonates produce a dry, matte surface and are claimed, because of their alkaline nature, to benefit heat and light stability. Clay improves electrical insulation. Silicates enhance surface dryness. Asbestos fibers provide the reinforcement necessary for dimensional stability in floor tile. Antimony oxide, per se or as a surface coating on an inert carrier, provides flame retard-ance. Their only major adverse effects are to reduce tensile strength and elongation and require an increase in plasticizer level to compensate... [Pg.279]

Firstly it can be used for obtaining layers with a thickness of several mono-layers to introduce and to distribute uniformly very low amounts of admixtures. This may be important for the surface of sorption and catalytic, polymeric, metal, composition and other materials. Secondly, the production of relatively thick layers, on the order of tens of nm. In this case a thickness of nanolayers is controlled with an accuracy of one monolayer. This can be important in the optimization of layer composition and thickness (for example when kernel pigments and fillers are produced). Thirdly the ML method can be used to influence the matrix surface and nanolayer phase transformation in core-shell systems. It can be used for example for intensification of chemical solid reactions, and in sintering of ceramic powders. Fourthly, the ML method can be used for the formation of multicomponent mono- and nanolayers to create surface nanostructures with uniformly varied thicknesses (for example optical applications), or with synergistic properties (for example flame retardants), or with a combination of various functions (polyfunctional coatings). Nanoelectronics can also utilize multicomponent mono- and nanolayers. [Pg.40]

Consideration is given to the influence of combinations of zinc hydroxystannate (ZHS) with hydrated fillers, on the fire properties of plasticised PVC and polychloroprene. It is shown that magnesium and aluminium hydroxides specially coated with ZHS, confer significantly increased combustion resistance and lower levels of smoke evolution to these polymers. This permits large reductions to additive loading relative to unmodified filler, without sacrificing flame retardant or smoke suppressant performance. 10 refs. [Pg.130]

The chemicals used for coating and laminating are polymeric materials, either naturally occurring or produced synthetically. These include natural and synthetic rubbers, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl alcohol, acrylic, phenohc resins, polyurethanes, silicones, fluorochemicals, epoxy resins and polyesters." Coating formulations typically include auxiliaries such as plasticizers, adhesion promoters, viscosity regulators, pigments, fillers, flame retardants, catalysts and the like. ... [Pg.24]

Use Glass, ceramics, iron-free aluminum and aluminum salts, manufacture of activated alumina, base for organic lakes, flame retardants, mattress batting. Finely divided form (0.1-0.6 microns) used for rubber reinforcing agent, paper coating, filler, cosmetics. [Pg.44]

Zinc borate is an inorganic flame retardant which can be used by itself or in combination with aluminum hydroxide or magnesium hydroxide with which it forms synergistic mixtures of high performance flame retardants. It is frequently used as a surface coating on these two fillers. It reduces smoke emission and promotes char formation. [Pg.171]

Manufacturers of various fillers continue studies on altemative systems. Most antimony oxide used as a fire retardant can be replaced by a combination of zinc borate without the loss of other properties (in some cases improvements are reported). Another option is to use the same filler systems which are used in polyethylene insulated cables and wires. These are based on magnesium hydroxide and aluminum hydroxide. These systems pcrfoim as flame retardants but require a high filler concentration which affects jacket resistance and mechanical performance. Recently, new coated grades have been developed which can be used at up to 65 wt% without the loss of properties or productivity (extrusion rates 2,500 m/min of cable are possible). ... [Pg.787]
