A very common use for descriptive statistics is when a safety manager is asked to present data at company or regional meetings on losses incurred. Suppose a safety manager was asked to present the fire losses experienced by the plant over the previous three years. The following data was collected for insurance claims involving fires

Descriptive statistics for the data above can be used to describe the losses by year as
