In many industrial halls, conduction inro the ground is a major factor for heat loss. Therefore, an adequate modeling of the floor slab and the underlying, thermally active, soil is very crucial for reliable simulation resuirs. The tools needed to perform such advanced analyses are not yet generally available. However, a number of commercially available finite element programs possess sophisticated nonlinear analysis capabilities. These analysis codes do not incorporate the design code checks for local member instabilities as is done in advanced analyses. In spile of this obvious and significant difference, the finite element analysis method is considered as an advanced analysis method for purposes of this report. 

More sophisticated, computerized heat transfer calculation techniques are available where specific scenarios require detailed analysis (Idling et al., 1977 Paulsson, 1983). These techniques involve the use of multidimensional finite element programs. 

A finite element program with four-noded isoparametric elements was used to solve the above governing equations and boundary conditions. Algorithm 10 presents the scheme used to evaluate the element stiffness matrices and force vectors using numerical integration. 

Write a two-dimensional finite element program, using constant strain triangles and ID tube elements, to predict the flow and pressure distribution in a variable thickness die. Use the Hele-Shaw model. Compare the FEM results with the analytical solution for an end-fed sheeting die.
