Fine milling

In iadustrial production of titanium carbide, pure (99.8%, with minor impurities of Si, Fe, S, P, and alkahes) titanium oxide [13463-67-7] Ti02, iu the dry or wet state is mixed iu 68.5 31.5 ratio with carbon black or finely milled low ash graphite. The dry mixture is pressed iato blocks that are heated iu a horizontal or vertical carbon-tube furnace at 1900—2300°C hydrogen that is free of oxygen and nitrogen serves as protective gas. In the vertical push-type furnaces, the Hberated CO itself provides protection. 

Acid resistance is enhanced by fine milling and minimum clay additions to the slip. The setting agents (deflocculents) which hold the powder particles... 

Follow-up studies utilized finely-milled legume flours and the addition of soybean flour as a fat-control agent in an effort to improve doughnut quality (5). The legume products and doughnuts prepared from them are shown in Figure 5. On a dry weight basis, peanut flour from solvent extracted peanuts (PF-SE) contained 0.9% fat and 54.4% protein while cowpea flour (CF) contained 1.4% fat and 25.5% protein. Peanut flour from partially defatted untoasted peanuts (PF-PD-U) contained 34.5% fat and 34.9% protein while peanut flour from partially defatted peanuts toasted at 160°C contained 34.4% fat and 37.6% protein. 

The poor performance of finely milled cowpea flours may be due to changes in physical form and structure which occur as a result of milling. Sefa-Dedah and Stanley (10) investigated the relationship of microstructure of cowpeas to water absorption and decortication... 

Separate drums should be used for the preparation of these binary mixtures. Special care must be taken to ensure that the container for the sulphur mixture is properly sealed, otherwise the sulphur which has been finely milled and heated on milling may oxidize and even ignite in contact with air. 

He describes a process for fine milling which results in uniform particle size distribution in the 5-micron range. Milled Basic LSt resembles other sty pb nates in color texture. It should be stored with a water-alcohol soln or isopropyl ale for %-lb portions. To prevent improper use, all styphnates, in or out of storage, should be properly identified (Ref 16)... 

The components of the citrus fruit are separated into the principal products citrus oils, juice and residual peel and pith. After concentration of the juice, the oils and some peel and pith will be recombined with the concentrated juice. The whole mixture will then typically be finely milled and homogenised before being pasteurised.

Roller mills apply stress to single solid particles between two rotating rollers. The diameter of the rollers is between 0.5 and 1.5 m, and the minimum gap width allows only fine milling. A second type of roller mills operates at higher roller pressures and treats a bed of solids. These high-compression roller mills can be used for ultrafine milling. 

Rod mills rods of up to 6 m in length as the grinding media, and can be used for fine milling.
