Finding with visual indicator

Finding the End Point with a Visual Indicator Most indicators for complexation titrations are organic dyes that form stable complexes with metal ions. These dyes are known as metallochromic indicators. To function as an indicator for an EDTA titration, the metal-indicator complex must possess a color different from that of the uncomplexed indicator. Furthermore, the formation constant for the metal-indicator complex must be less favorable than that for the metal-EDTA complex. [Pg.323]

Because the product of the reaction, I3-, is itself colored, the color of the solution containing the analyte changes with each addition of titrant. For this reason it is difficult to find a suitable visual indicator for the titration s end point. [Pg.340]

Initial attempts at developing precipitation titration methods were limited by a poor end point signal. Finding the end point by looking for the first addition of titrant that does not yield additional precipitate is cumbersome at best. The feasibility of precipitation titrimetry improved with the development of visual indicators and potentiometric ion-selective electrodes. [Pg.354]

A potentiometric titration belongs to chemical methods of analysis in which the endpoint of the titration is monitored with an indicator electrode that records the change of the potential as a function of the amount (usually the volume) of the added titrant of exactly known concentration. Potentiometric titrations are especially versatile because indicator electrodes suitable for the study of almost every chemical reaction used in titrimetry are now available. This technique is also frequently used in the study of operational conditions of visual titrimetric indicators proposed for general use in chemical analysis, as well as in the study of numerous reactions, such as protonation and complexation, which find their application not particularly in analytical measurements. The course of the potentiometric titration curve provides information not only about the titration endpoint position, but also the position and shape of the curve that may provide data about the processes accompanying the titration reaction. Another advantage is that the necessary apparatus is generally less expensive, reliable, and readily available in the laboratories. [Pg.4857]

Find a less hazardous way to do the job by using an engineering revision to find an entirely new and safe way to do a job. Determine the work goal and analyze the various ways of reaching this goal to establish which way is safest. Consider work-saving tools and equipment. An example of this would be to install gauges on the loader that would visually indicate the fluid level and prevent contact with the fluids. [Pg.197]

The primary health care provider examines the eye and external structures surrounding the eye and prescribes the drug indicated to treat the disorder. The nurse examines the eye for irritation, redness, and the presence of any exudate and carefully documents the findings in the patient s record. A purulent discharge is often found with infection of the eye. Pruritus (itching) is often present with allergic conditions of the eye. It is also important to determine if any visual impairment is present because this would indicate the need for assistance with ambulation and possibly activities of daily living. [Pg.630]
