The results in Table III indicate that for screens of equal thickness, LaOBr Tb screens have the highest speed. The LaOBr screens have the best resolution partly due to the smaller particle size of the phosphors. It was not possible to prepare all phosphors with about the same particle size. Clearly, at the speeds indicated, all rare earth phosphors have lower signal to noise ratios since fewer x-ray photons are required to obtain the same film exposures as compared to CaWOi Par screens. [Pg.214]

TTF was reacted with bromine in solution to give a compound with the known composition TTF-BrQ Electron microprobe studies of sublimed films of this material indicated that at low electron irradiation energies, the correct bromine concentration could be determined. Figure 2a shows a BrL scan and the uniform distribution of bromine in the film. Exposure of a section of this... [Pg.84]

According to the 1981-83 National Occupational Exposure Survey, as many as 15 600 workers in the United States were potentially exposed to di(2-ethylhexyl) adipate (NOES, 1999). Occupational exposure may occur through inhalation, mainly as an aerosol, during its manufacture and its use, particularly as a plasticizer of PVC films and in other materials used in food packaging such as adhesives, cellophane and hydroxy ethyl cellulose films. Exposure may also occur during the manufacture of rubber products, nonferrous wire, cosmetics, lubricants and hydraulic fluids (Opresko, 1984). No measurements of di(2-ethylhexyl) adipate exposure in manufacturing and processing industries are available. [Pg.151]

The refinement (2) proceeded in the same way as for the x-ray work, except that o and S q were refined as additional variables. We assumed that the scattering was kinematic. The cross sectional dimensions of the microfibrils are 200xl0C)X and our previous work on synthetic polymer single crystals showed that the kinematic approximation was adequate for such small crystallites. Intensity measurement presented considerable difficulty in that multiple film exposures could not be obtained. Sequential exposures of the same area of the specimen led to problems of beam damage, and patterns from different areas were not comparable due to differences in the preferred orientation. As a result, only the 28 strongest non-meridional intensities could be measured. These were all for reflections which could be indexed by the Meyer and Misch unit cell, and thus the two chain unit cell was used for the refinement. [Pg.321]

In a number of experiments studying the incorporation of S3504 into seromucoid fractions 10-/il. samples of plasma were applied to paper strips and subjected to electrophoresis in the Beckman-Spinco paper electrophoresis apparatus. The resultant oven-dried paper strips were attached to an 8 x 10 sheet of paper and applied directly to a sheet of Eastman No-screen x-ray film. Exposure extended over a period of 1 month. At the end of this time the film was developed in the usual manner (see Figure 2). The paper strips were then stained with bromophe-nol blue to demonstrate the major protein fractions. [Pg.43]

RNA probes, and the resulting film exposures can be used to locate the recombinant X plaque responsible for a specific hybridization signal. After a series of plaque purification steps (repeated plating and plaque isolation), an individual X recombinant clone can be purified to homogeneity. [Pg.273]

Remove the filters from the wash solution and place on Whatman 3MM paper. Allow the filter to dry and then scan the filter with a Geiger counter. If the counts are below 200 cpm, obtain film exposures of the filters. Expose filters to film using enhancer screens (DuPont Quanta III) at low temperatures (—70°). If the initial scan or later film exposures indicate high background signals, rewash the filters in a solution of lower ionic strength (e.g., 1 X SSC and, if necessary, down to 0. IX SSC). [Pg.276]

There are three methods commonly used to ascertain the quantity of radioactive atoms in a given sample film exposure, Geiger-Miiller counting, and scintillation spectrometry. None of these techniques measures the number of /3 particles directly, but rather monitors the results of collisions between the j3 particles emitted from the radioactive atoms and some component of the assay system. [Pg.69]

Diffusion of materials out of a PSi sensor was monitored by Koh and coworkers in a proof-of-concept device for monitored drug delivery applications [29], Poly-methyl methacrylate (PMMA) containing 0.25 mg/ml caffeine was first cast onto a freestanding PSi thin film. Exposure of this composite material to a pH 7 buffer caused a time-dependent decrease in the intensity of reflection at a fixed wavelength, or alternatively a time-dependent blue shift of the peak, corresponding to diffusion of the small molecule out of the PMMA-PSi composite. These data correlated well with appearance of caffeine in the buffer solution, as measured by UV-Vis spectrophotometry. [Pg.18]
