Currently, there are six ALS-resistant weed species that can be found in one or more fields in 10 or more states, provinces, or countries. These weed species include Palmer amaranth, common chickweed, common cocklebur, kochia, redroot pigweed, and common waterhemp. [Pg.137]

There is one report of an alleged case of nitrate toxicity associated with chickweed that resulted in a mild form of paralysis (Chadha 1988). The standard nitrate content of chickweed is 0.1% (Guil et al. 1997), suggesting that the toxicity case was due to environmental factors, such as harvesting from fields where synthetic fertilizers had been used. [Pg.827]

Common chickweed (Fig. 5.13d) is the most common broad-leaved weed found in virtually all arable fields in the UK. Chickweed favours fertile soils, germinating all the year roimd and it readily overwinters. This weed is very successful, partly because it can produce more than one generation of plants a year and thus a lot of seed. At the seedling stage it is a bright green colour and has trae leaves with the same shape as the cotyledons. [Pg.108]

Clacyfos EC was tested in wheat field at 990-3,750 mL/ha (300-1,125 g ai/ha) when weeds were at 2-8 leaves stage. 13 % MCPA (aqua) 3,750 mL/ha and 10 % tribenuron methyl WP 150 mL/ha, at the recommended rates, were used as the positive controls. A preponderance of weeds in this wheat field were flixweed tansymustard Descurainia Sophia), shepherd s purse Capsella bursa-pastoris), and chickweed Stellaria media). There were also little wild oats (Avena fatua), cleavers Galium aparine) and others. As shown in Table 8.13, after 50 days, clacyfos exhibited 91 % total control at 450 g ai/ha against weeds in this wheat field. The yield of wheat could rise to 6,495 kg/ha which is increased 19 % comparing to the negative imtreated (5,430 kg/ha). However, the yield of wheat... [Pg.371]
