Fetal epidermal cells

Hair follicles and their associated sebaceous glands (pilosebaceous glands), eccrine glands, apocrine glands, and finger and toenails are all considered skin appendages. Hair follicles are found everywhere within the skin except for the soles of the feet, the palms of the hand, the red portion (vermilion border) of the lips, and the external genitalia. All are formed from fetal epidermal cells. Hair differs markedly in its prominence from place to place over the body. Delicate primary hair is found on the fetus secondary hair or down covers the adult forehead terminal hair ordinarily blankets the scalp and is found as pubic... [Pg.49]

Endothelial cells are maintained in a basal culture medium, such as DMEM or a proprietary medium supplied with the cells, which is supplemented with hydrocortisone (lug/mL). epidermal growth factor (EGF 100 ug/mL) bovine fibroblast growth factor (FGF 1 ng/mL), antibiotics (gentamicin and amphotericin, at 50 ug/mL) and fetal calf serum (2-10%). Alternatively, bovine brain extract (3 ug/mL) can be used instead of EGF and FGF. The cells are cultured in either standard tissue culture flasks directly on plastic or on flasks coated with collagen. The cells are grown to confluence and subcultured and reseeded in a ratio of 1 3. For all experiments primary endothelial cells should be used between passages 3 and 12. [Pg.123]

The ESTs that have been submitted to the public sequence databases to date were created from thousands of different cDNA libraries representing over 250 organisms. The libraries may be from whole organs, such as human brain, liver, lung, or skeletal muscle, specialized tissues or cells, such as cerebral cortex or epidermal keratinocyte, or cultured cell lines such as liver HepG2 or gastric carcinoma. Some libraries have been constructed to compare transcripts from different developmental stages, such as fetal versus infant human brain or embryonic 7-day versus neonatal... [Pg.284]

The keratinocytes were cultured in primitive medium DMEM supplemented FBS (Fetal Bovine Serum), EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor), hydrocortisone, cholera toxin (Sigma) with the density 3 x 10 cells/cm, 37% ° C, 5% CO2. [Pg.155]
