Ferroferri-cyanid, n. ferrous ferricyanide. -oxyd, n. ferrosoferric oxide, iron (11,111) oxide. [Pg.151]

Corrosion products include iron oxide (Fe203), ferrosoferric oxide (Fe304), nickel oxide (NiO), cobalt oxide (CoO), and complex Fe, Ni, and Co oxides. Cobalt in particular may present a problem (as cobalt59, a naturally occurring isotope), and when present as a contaminant in nickel alloys (such as Inconel 800), may enhance the development of an outer-core radiation field (see Section 7.4.1). [Pg.477]

E. Rammann noted that a little ammonium nitrate is formed during the reduction of a soln. of ferric nitrate by metallic iron whereby ferrosoferric oxide is precipitated, and ammonium nitrate appears in the soln. E. W. von Siemens and J. G. Halske patented a process in which a mixture of well-dried oxygen, nitrogen, and ammonia... [Pg.830]

At 1600° C. platinum effects the reduction of both ferric oxide and ferrosoferric oxide in air, oxygen being evolved and a solid solution of iron in platinum remaining as residue. The same reaction obtains at lower temperatures, namely, at 1200° C., if the oxygen pressure is very small. This explains why platinum crucibles sometimes increase in weight when used to heat oxides of iron at high temperatures.2... [Pg.267]

Amotmt of Iron Used. In plant practice, it is customary to use slightly over 2 moles Fe per mole of nitro compound to carry out the reduction process. Under such circumstances, not all the iron is converted to the ferrosoferric oxide, some reducto-active ferrous hydroxide also being present. Iron sludge obtained from the reduction of nitrobenzene gives the analysis shown in Table 5-3. Since magnetic iron oxide consists of 1 part FeO + 1 part Fe20s, the ferric content would be about 66 per cent Fe if all the iron were converted to the ferrosoferric oxide. [Pg.140]

Owing to the fact that part of the iron hydroxides formed loses water to form the ferrosoferric oxide during the course of the reaction, it is entirely... [Pg.141]

The bonding industry, when presented with the difficulties of reducing solvent emissions to meet the Environmental Protection Act (1990), faced problems in believing that water could solve some of the problem. When clean steel is in contact with water and oxygen, it rapidly oxidises to form ferrous hydroxide, which further oxidises to ferrosoferric oxide hydrate. [Pg.71]
