Initial feasibility confirmation

The chain architecture and chemical structure could be modified by SCVCP leading to a facile, one-pot synthesis of surface-grafted branched polymers. The copolymerization gave an intermediate surface topography and film thickness between the polymer protrusions obtained from SCVP of an AB inimer and the polymer brushes obtained by ATRP of a conventional monomer. The difference in the Br content at the surface between hyperbranched, branched, and linear polymers was confirmed by XPS, suggesting the feasibility to control the surface chemical functionality. The principal result of the works is a demonstration of utility of the surface-initiated SCVP via ATRP to prepare surface-grafted hyperbranched and branched polymers with characteristic architecture and topography. 

Transcoronary venous injection is performed with a catheter system threaded percutaneously into the coronary sinus. Initial studies in swine have confirmed the feasibility and safety of this approach [121]. This delivery method has also been used to deliver skeletal myoblasts to scarred myocardium in cardiomyopathy patients [120]. With intravascular ultrasound guidance, this approach allows the operator to extend a catheter and needle away from the pericardial space and coronary artery into the adjacent myocardium. Nevertheless, there are two highly efficient CL systems which are believed to involve the CIEEL mechanism in the chemiexcitation step, i.e. the peroxyoxalate reaction and the electron transfer initiated decomposition of properly substituted 1,2-dioxetanes (Table 1)17,26 We have recently confirmed the high quantum yields of the peroxyoxalate system and obtained experimental evidence for the validity of the CIEEL hypothesis as the excitation mechanism in this reaction. The catalyzed decomposition of protected phenoxyl-substituted 1,2-dioxetanes is believed to be initiated by an intramolecular electron transfer, analogously to the intermolecular CIEEL mechanism. Therefore, these two highly efficient systems demonstrate the feasibility of efficient excited-state formation by subsequent electron transfer, chemical transformation (cleavage) and back-electron transfer steps, as proposed in the CIEEL hypothesis. 

The goal of the exploratory project stage is to provide initial confirmation of marketplace interest and technical feasibility. Business extensions and process improvement projects should provide transition details on how the project will move from the idea to the intended business. The following deliverables are required for a project to move into the EP stage. 

Initial experiments have demonstrated the feasibility of car-bothermic reduction of UO2 and nitriding of uranium in molten tin. Nitriding of the product of carbothermic reduction of mixed U02 Pu02 and added fission product elements is one of the steps to be confirmed for this process to be deemed potentially useful.
